How to Clean a Knife
When cleaning a knife one of the most important things to remember is to clean the knife often and thorough. Cleaning a knife does not take too long unless you have not done it for a while. One quick way is to run it until warm water and scrub with an old toothbrush, this should get most of the dirt and grime off. If this does not work let the knife soak in warm water for some time and then try again. For the hinge of the knife I find that using a q-tip works best, with some oil and WD-40. The oil will clean it and the lubricant will help and stiffness if the spring. Also try to dry the knife right away in order to not cause any watermarks or more rust that you will have to clean later.
How to Sharpen a Knife
There are many ways to sharpen a knife. The first and most common way is with a whetstone. When using a whetstone add oil to the stone to further protect your knife, if you do not have oil water works for just sharpening. Hold your knife at a angle, usually between 15 and 30 degrees, and swipe away from you starting at the base and then ending toward the tip of the knife. Repeat swiping around five times then switch to the other side of the knife.
