What Kinds of ideas about presentation skills did you think about as Sir Ken Robinson presented his ideas about education? How could you incorporate what you saw into your own TED talk? How did Sir Ken Robinson's talk resonate with you? How might/ might not Genius Hour support Ken Robinson's ideas about how to change education?
I think that Sir Ken Robinson's presentation skills were excellent, from the very beginning he engaged his audience and made the talk seem as though it was just a friend to friend talk. Sir Ken Robinson made the talk informal by making jokes and other remarks that were slightly off topic. This will help me in my TED talk with how I will present it. Instead of thinking of it as an assignment I would talk as though I am telling a friend or relative. The informality, I believe, makes a talk easier for a speaker and simpler to understand for the listeners. The speaker is able to speak on what he believes instead of from a prepared speech and the audience does not feel any pressure.
Sir Ken Robinson's talk made me think more about the education system in our country. We always hear that we are falling behind and that we need more money for the education system but maybe what we need to do is rethink how the education works. Instead of pushing kids through, we should make sure that everyone receives the same level of education and the same chance going out of high school. Genius Hour supports what Sir Ken Robinson is saying. It is a way to get the students more engaged in class. Learning is always easier if it is interesting to the person learning. Most students would rather be on a computer learning about a subject they enjoy instead of memorizing formulas or defining vocabulary terms.
